Madrid government finally gives green light to Atletico's stadium ownership switch
In an extraordinary meeting, the Community of Madrid ratified Atletico's application to transfer the use of the land from public to private after initially rejecting the club's submission.
Atletico Madrid are finally be able to acquire official ownership of the Stadio Olympico, the site of their new ground, the Wanda Metroplitano, after the regional government ratified the club’s application to transfer the use of the land from public to private.
"Substantial errors"
On 21 December, the Community of Madrid rejected the Urban Planning documentation submitted by the City Council on behalf of the club owing to “substantial errors”, seemingly putting Atletico’s move to the yet-to-be-completed arena in jeopardy.
However, in an extraordinary meeting 30 December – one day before the previously agreed deadline for the land transfer – the Madrid government gave the green light to the process after months of delays, paving the way for Atletico to move to the ground in time for the start of next season.
