LALIGA SANTANDER

The race for LaLiga: how the fixture list looks for each club

With the season about to reach its half-way point we look at the second round of fixtures for the four teams in the title race.

The race for LaLiga: how the fixture list looks for each club

Real Madrid-Celta Live

Real Madrid's defeat at the Sanchez Pizjuán last night has thrown the title race wide open with the 2016/17 campaign just one game away from reaching the half.way point of the season. Madrid now lead the Andalusian side by just one point and hold a two point advantage over Barcelona with Atletico trailing in fourth place. Zidane's side do have one game in hand as their December trip to Mestalla was postponed due to the FIFA Club World Cup

With 20 games remaining in the current season (plus Madrid's re-scheduled trip to Valencia) the fixture list is somewhat favourable for Zidane's men with all direct rivals (Sevilla, Barça and Atleti) yet to visit the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

1st: Real Madrid — 40 points

POSITIVE: Real Madrid's immediate schedule is relatively uncomplicated and they don't face any of their direct rivals until match-day 31 when  Atlético visit Chamartin. Madrid also welcome direct rivals FC Barcelona and Sevilla at home as well as facing away trips five of the bottom six sides.

NEGATIVE: Madrid will play their last game of the season away from home at Malaga's La Rosaleda and apart from the games against direct competitors, face tricky away trips to Villarreal's Estadio de la Cerámica and San Mamés (Athletic Club).

POSITIVE: Sampaoli's men face Osasuna at home in the last day of the season they also face the bulk of the top placed teams (apart from Madrid, Barça and Atleti) currently in LaLiga at home in the Sanchez Pizjuán.

NEGATIVE: The aforementioned trips to the Calderon, Camp Nou and the Bernabeu could be decisive in deciding the destination for the 2016/17 LaLiga trophy..

4th: Atlético — 34 points

POSITIVE: Both Barcelona and Sevilla have to travel to the Calderón and if Cholo's side can secure a positive result from the Madrid derby at the Bernabéu their fixture list for the run in is relatively uncomplicated. The curtain comes down at the Calderón with the visit of Athletic in the last round of games.

NEGATIVE: They are some six points behind the league leaders and face a complicated trip to San Mamés next weekend.
