Godín and Deyverson in foul spitting match at final whistle
The Uruguyan defender and the Brazilian forward were both caught by TV cameras spitting in each other's faces during the final play of Alavés' 0-0 home draw with Atletico Madrid.
Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin and Alavés forward Deyverson could both be in hot water with LaLiga and the Spanish Football Federation after the two players appeared to spit in each other’s faces at the end of a 0-0 draw in Vitoria.
Deyverson, whose late challenge caused Giminez to go off injured earlier in the 2nd half, was on the end of Godin’s stray arm just before the referee called time; an incident which saw the Atleti centre-back yellow carded.
Gobbet of phlegm
Then, in the final play of the game, Deyverson sought retaliation by clearly spitting at Godin as Atletico defended an Alavés free-kick. Godin responded by releasing his own gobbet of phlegm right back at the Brazilian, which was also picked up by TV cameras.
With irrefutable evidence against them, both players are likely to face punishment from the league authorities in the coming days.
