Theo Hernández: left-back to return to Atlético in summer

The 19-year-old has been a revelation on loan at Alavés this term, and has forced his way into Atlético Madrid boss Diego Simeone's plans.

Theo Hernández is to be installed in the Atlético Madrid first-team squad next season in the wake of his exploits on loan at Deportivo Alavés.

The left-back, 19, joined Alavés in August on a season-long loan from Atlético, who have been keeping a close eye on his development at the Basque outfit.

Has excelled on loan at Alavés

And the France Under-21 cap - whose brother Lucas is already in the Atleti senior set-up - has impressed in his 20 appearances for Mauricio Pellegrino's men so far.

The latest top display in his excellent season came in Saturday's LaLiga encounter between 'El Glorioso' and parent club Atlético at Mendizorroza.

Coach Diego Simeone had spoken pre-match of his satisfaction with Hernández's progress at Alavés, and the player did not disappoint in the sides' 0-0 draw.

Buy-out clause increased by Atleti

Indeed, Hernández, who is under contract at Atleti until 2021, has attracted interest from clubs such as Manchester City, Barcelona and Marseille.

However, Atlético recently moved to up his release clause from six to 24 million euros, with the defender now very much a part of next season's plans.

Left-back with a big future

Los Colchoneros feel he has a big future - not to mention the ability to make an impact in the short term - and that at Atleti he can realise his huge potential.

With regular left-back Filipe Luis now 31, Hernández is seen as a likely long-term replacement for the Brazilian, one who could occupy the flank for years to come.
