Napoli legend Diego Maradona has landed in the Spanish capital to attend the Serie A side's Champions League last-16 first leg with Real Madrid.

The World Cup-winning Argentina captain is to stay at the same hotel as the team, with reports in Italy also saying he could join the traditional directors' dinner on the eve of the European encounter at the Bernabéu.

"If I could tell the future, I wouldn't have been a footballer"

Asked for his prediction for the clash, Maradona - who helped Napoli to two Italian championships in a highly successful spell as a player at the club - quipped: "If I could tell the future, I wouldn't have been a footballer."

Maradona girlfriend: "Off to see Napoli win"

He has been accompanied on his trip to Madrid by his girlfriend, Rocío Oliva, who wasn't quite so circumspect as she looked ahead to Wednesday's match-up.

Taking to social media as she prepared to fly to Spain with the 56-year-old, she wrote: "We're off to see Napoli win."
