With only 16 months left to run on his Real Madrid contract, Isco is still without a new deal at the club. The main reason for this is that the Malagan is not clear about his continuity in the white shirt, given that he’s enjoyed few minutes wearing it this season.

Real Madrid, though, want Isco to stay and Zinedine Zidane has given his approval to any contract renewal. However, it is Isco himself who has decided to cease negotiations until the summer.
"What concerns me is getting minutes, a player's career is small," he said following his impressive display against Espanyol last weekend. "I am very happy here and [hope to be] for many more years. At the end of the season we will make a decision, it is my future what's at stake."

The numbers support Isco's doubts as to whether to renew or not: after Mariano, he’s the player in Madrid’s first-team squad with the least playing time in the Champions League this season, appearing solely in the group-stage fixture against Sporting in Lisbon, in which he lasted 67 minutes before being replaced.
As for the general count of playing time during 2016-17 in all competitions, Isco is sixteenth on the list, accumulating 1,346 minutes. Even Gareth Bale, who has been injured for three months, has played more than him with 1,359 minutes.
