Bayern Munich vs Madrid: crazy Champions League ticket demand

The Champions League quarter final between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid - set for April 12 - has already seen incredible local demand for tickets.
Real Madrid draws the crowd
As of today, the Bavarian support would be able to fill the Allianz Arena three times over counting the requests made to the club's ticket office. With internet petitions alone, there have been over 200,000 submitted for what is starting to be known as the European Clásico and they have decided not to accept any more requests from fans keen to see the Ancelotti-Zidane dual.
Out of the 200,000 fans looking for tickets, only 30,000 will be made available for them. The other 40,000 will primarily be taken up by the 35,000 season ticket holders (with Champions League rights) with the rest going to Real Madrid's traveling fans and Uefa's allocation. Prices will range from 35 euros to 150 euros.
A decade of stadium sell-outs
Four years ago the club reported similar demand for tickets as these two sides clashed in Europe's premier competition although then it was a stage further, in the semi-finals. And the German giants have had little problem filling their 70,000-seater stadium. The last time it was not at capacity was on 30 January 2007 against Bochum. Since then - over a decade - Bayern have enjoyed maximum gates, partly in thanks to their policy of ensuring prices cover all budgets, the cheapest at just 15 euros.
Fighting for fair pricing
The club are also pioneers in the fight against tickets being sold on the black market and have set up a platform to resell unwanted tickets legally. "The base of every club is its supporters," claimed Karl-Heinz Rummenigge before adding, "we want to guarantee fair prices".
