Real Madrid: Zidane responds to Piqué, confirms Ramos rest
Zinedine Zidane spoke to the media ahead of Real's LaLiga meeting with Deportivo Alavés at the Bernabéu on Sunday afternoon (16:15 CEST).
Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane spoke to the media on the eve of the leaders' LaLiga match against Deportivo Alavés on Sunday (16:15 CEST).
Zidane confirmed that Sergio Ramos is to be rested for the week 29 clash - and was also asked about Gerard Piqué's recent criticism of the Bernabéu club.
Here's what Zidane had to say:
Piqué's controversial comments: "As always, I understand your [the media's] concern, but I'm here to focus on other things. My focus is on tomorrow's game. Real Madrid are a great club, that's all there is to say. This club's greatness is without question. Nothing can change that."
Alavés' good results away to big LaLiga clubs: "It's true that they drew [with Atlético Madrid] at the Calderón and they won [against Barcelona] at the Camp Nou. They're tough opponents and we're ready for the game and happy to be returning to action."
Busy schedule coming up: "The players are ready. Every coach hopes to have all his players injury-free and in good shape, so I'm happy about that. The aim is to give our all to win trophies. Tomorrow's game won't be easy, but we're ready for every challenge."
Ramos to sit out Alavés match: "Ramos is going to be rested. He's played a lot and tomorrow is the right time for him to have rest."
Cristiano Ronaldo a booking away from a ban: "There's no strategy. He's on four [yellow cards]. I hope he stays on four until the end of the season. We're not going to look at that."
