REAL MADRID

Morata open to offers

A move to Chelsea is emerging as the likely option for the Spanish striker with Antonio Conte an admirer of the player from his time at Juventus.

Spanish radio network Cadena Cope revealed how Diego Simeone launched an improvised offer to Álvaro Morata during Tuesday's champions League semi final at the Bernabeu. Journalist Melchor Ruiz claims that whilst the striker was warming up on the touchline, the Atleti coach whispered in his ear: “come and play for me at Atlético”. There have been previous attempts from the Calderon based club to try and secure Morata's signature but in the end the 24 year old opted for a return to Real Madrid last summer.

Premier League interest

Simeone faces stern competition in his chase for the striker with interest for his services coming from the Premier League with Manchester United the latest side in the hunt for the Spanish international. At present, West London based Chelsea are in pole position to land the forward with Antonio Conte a verified admirer of the player.

Morata himself alluded to the interest from England in a recent Guardian interview published on April 12 : “Various Premier League coaches called to ask that I play for them. I said yeah, I’d like to, that if I had to leave I would almost certainly go to London, but that I didn’t know what Madrid would do. I knew they’d bring me back but I didn’t know if it was to keep me or sell me. I spoke directly to Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte, although the norm is clubs call my dad or agent".

Difficult Real Madrid return

Morata's return at Real Madrid has not panned out as the player had hoped with just Danilo, Coentrao, Mariano, Pepe and James securing less first team football for Madrid under Zinedine Zidane. Frustration for Morata has intensified over the past month with the forward not featuring in any of the club's recent marquee games (El Clasico, Champions League quarter final games against Bayern) and Tuesday's Madrid derby at the Bernabeu.
