Ander Herrera to reject meeting with new Barça coach Valverde
According to The Times, Manchester United player of the season Ander Herrera is not tempted to join his former Athletic Bilbao coach at Camp Nou.
The managerial change at Camp Nou has served to increase speculation surrounding one of Ernesto Valverde’s former players.
Herrera rejects Barcelona interest
Ander Herrera played under Valverde at Athletic Club in 2013, and according to The Times, the coach will try to meet the Manchester United midfielder with the aim of luring him to Camp Nou.
Yet the British newspaper has stated that the midfielder would reject a meeting with Valverde. Herrera has been named as player of the year at Old Trafford, and has the third highest number of appearances this season (50), behind Marcus Rashford (52) and Paul Pogba (51). Only the French midfielder has played more minutes.
United will be in Champions League
As things stand, Herrera will play in the Champions League with Manchester United next season, after Mourinho’s team qualified by virtue of beating Ajax in the Europa League final.
According to The Times, the 27-year-old is eager to extend his contract at United, which is due to expire in June 2018.
