Cuadrado receives harsh red for alleged foul on Ramos
Valencia - Juventus live: Champions League 2018/19
Juan Cuadrado was sent off in the 84th minute of the Champions League final after receiving a second yellow card for an alleged stamp on the back of Sergio Ramos’ ankle. Real Madrid saw off the Italian giants 1-4, to seal a 12th European Cup.
Cuadrado receives marching orders
The Colombian entered the fray as a substitute in the 60th minute for Juventus. He received his first yellow card for fouling Cristiano Ronaldo, as the Real Madrid goalscorer looked to break forward.
The second booking was far more contentious. With Madrid winning 3-1, Sergio Ramos tackled Cuadrado, sending the ball out for a Juventus throw in. The winger got to his feet and scampered across the touchline to receive the ball. In doing so, he tangled feet with Ramos, who reacted by falling to the turf and clutching his ankle.
Ramos ensures red
While it is impossible to say with certainty, it appeared that it was an accidental ‘coming-together’, and thus a harsh decision. Yet Sergio Ramos’ theatrical reaction ensured that referee Felix Byrch pulled a second yellow from his pocket.
Cuadrado becomes the third player to be sent off in a Champions League final, after Jens Lehmann and Didier Drogba.
