Buffon: Next term my last, unless Juventus win Champions League
Gianluigi Buffon says he would go back on his earlier vow to retire at the end of 2017/18 if Juve were to win Europe's top club competition.
Juventus and Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon has reaffirmed that he is "99.9 %" certain of retiring after next season - unless he finally wins the Champions League.
"I'll have one final, intense season" - Buffon
"Yes, I'm 99.9 % sure that's how it will go," said the 39-year-old goalkeeper when asked by Sky Sport if he intends to keep to an earlier promise to hang up his gloves at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
"I will have one final, intense season full of key dates, then it will be time to call it a day."
Buffon, a world champion with Italy in 2006, had previously said next term would be his last, although he is not expected to fully retire until after the 2018 World Cup, if Italy qualify.
Buffon: I'll play another season if Juve win Champions League
"If we win the Champions League I will continue to play one more season so I can also try to win the Club World Cup and other trophies," Buffon explained.
