Saúl renews with Atlético Madrid through to 2026
The Golden Boot winner at the Euro Under 21 renews with Atleti for nine years and has his release clause increased to 100 million euro.
Saúl Ñíguez has inked a new deal that will see him remain with Atlético Madrid through to 2026. The club confirmed the news just one day after the conclusion of the UEFA U-21 competition where Spain were runners-up with Saul claiming the Golden Boot award for the tournament with five goals.
The player joined the club initially in 2007 and his original deal with Atleti expired in 2021. Along with an improved salary the player also has his release clause increased to 100 million euro.
Atleti renewals
Given the current transfer ban, the club are anxious to retain their key players and Saul's renewal coincides with Koke's recently improved deal ensuring the player wears the red and white stripes through to 2024.
The 22 year old Saul commented on the renewal stating: “I'm delighted with the renewal as here at Atleti we're like a family and there is no better place to be. I'll continue to work hard and would like to express my gratitude to all my team mates and everyone at the club who has helped me become the player I am".
Atleti's sporting director Para José Luis Pérez Caminero added, “Saúl is an example for all those kids who start in our youth academy. His dedication, work effort and way of playing make him a complete player. We, as a club are delighted with this new contract and look forward to Saul developing and growing as a player with Atletico Madrid".
