Andrés Guardado is keen to remain in Europe and has chosen Betis as his next destination. The Mexican midfielder has agreed personal terms with the Verdiblancos, who are expected to pay PSV Eindhoven a fee of between 1.5 to 2 million euros in the operation. Should all go according to plan, Guardado could sign his new contract with Betis by the end of this week.

New, deeper role for Guardado at Betis

Betis boss Quique Setién has been looking for a player with similar characteristic to Roque Mesa, who he coached at Las Palmas and sees Guardado as the ideal solution. Once noted for his wing play, in his latter years, Guardado has dropped back into a holding midfield role. At PSV, he was used to carry the ball out from the midfield to instigate attacking moves - a function he performed well. The 30-year-old Mexico international has a year to run on his contract with the Dutch outfit and has received numnerous offers from clubs in MSL but would rather stay in Europe for the time being.
