Ajax confirm that Nouri suffered permanent brain damage

The 20-year-old collapsed during a friendly against Werder Bremen and the club confirmed today that the youngster suffered permanent brain damage.

Update:
Se confirma lo peor: Nouri sufre un daño cerebral permanente.

Ajax have confirmed today that Abdelhak Nouri, who collapsed while playing a friendly against Werder Bremen with a cardiac arrhythmia, has suffered severe and permanent brain damage.

After falling on the pitch, the youngster was revived and assisted by medical services before being helped to hospital. Since Saturday, the Dutch club had been keeping fans and neutrals up to date in his condition. He had been kept in an induced coma in order to monitor his heart and his brain.

On July 10th, they reported that his heart was found to be beating normally but they also warned that this meant nothing as they needed to test the brain to ensure everything was functioning as it should.

Update on Nouri not a positive one

Sadly, on Thursday, the club revealed that their worst nightmare had come to pass as a large part of Abdelhak's brain was not working and the chance of recovery was zero. This could have been caused due to the lack of oxygen when he initially collapsed.

"It's terrible and we are with his loved ones as their suffering has been indescribable. It's a very difficult thing to take for everyone but we were made aware that this scenario was a possibility. Abdelhak was an excellent talent, but we will never know how brightly his star would have shone," declared Edwin van der Sar, the club's director general.

He is expected to be moved to Amsterdam soon where he will be cared for by his loved ones.
