Lower-league Burgos mock Barça hack with Messi announcement
Barça's official Twitter account was hacked to announce the spurious signing of Ángel Di María, and third-division Burgos CF were quick with a jovial response.
Barcelona's official Twitter account was hacked in the early hours of Wednesday morning, at around 04:00 Spanish time. The perpetrators welcomed PSG midfielder Ángel Di María to the club, before Barça confirmed the hack an hour later.
Barcelona hacked after bad day on social media
The hack concluded a disappointing day for the Catalan club on the social media front. Earlier on Tuesday, Barcelona announced their intention to sue Neymar for a breach of contract.
Senior members of the Blaugrana squad proceeded to take a series of photos with the Brazilian, which many have interpreted as a tacit display of opposition against the club's board.
Burgos announce Messi signing
Burgos CF, who play in Segunda B, Spain's regionalised third tier, were quick to poke further fun at Barcelona.
Later on Wednesday morning, the club from the Castile and León region announced a hack of their own: "Oh no! Our profile has been hacked in the early hours. It has already been confirmed and neutralised. Sorry for the inconvenience."
Below, the club attached an image of an earlier tweet announcing the signing of Lionel Messi.
Burgos is a city synonymous with the production of morcilla (black pudding). The local football club is forging a reputation for serving it with a cold side dish of wit.
