The Boston Celtics presented Godron Hawyward and Kyrie Irving as their two marquee summer signings and Irving said it was going to be "a crazy season"NFL Live: All the scores, injuries and action from week 2
The Boston Celtics used the same press conference to present their two marquee summer signing in Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving on Friday. The two players, arriving from Utah and Cleveland respectively, spoke at the press conference and Irving addressed the reasons why he left LeBron James in Ohio.
Irving said, "the decision to leave Cleveland had nothing to do with basketball" and said that it's not about one player leading the team but about putting the group above everything else. He also addressed the LeBron issue saying, "I still haven't talked to him," before saying "I have the chance to play with one of the greats and it was incredible."
Hayward, who arrived via free agency after stops in various cities interested in acquiring his services, thanked Isaiah Thomas as one of the players who convinced him to join Boston. Hayward revealed on the Woj podcast last month that Thomas flew back to Boston during his summer holidays as the efforts to convince the free agent to sign ramped up. Thomas explained to Hayward that signing with Boston was an obvious choice because "the public really know their sports" and are known for getting behind their teams.
Wyc Grousbeck, the owner of the team, says the Celtics now have a team that can be the champions and while Hayward says Irving is one of the best in the league, Irving says he is excited to share the court with Al Horford.
