Simeone's Atlético era already longest in club history
The Argentinean has been at the helm for 2,083 consecutive days. Luis Aragonés served longer but over the course of four separate tenures.
Diego Simeone signed a new contract at Atlético Madrid on Tuesday that will keep the Argentinean schemer at the club up to 2020. If he sees out of the remaining three years on his deal he will have been in charge of Atlético for some 3,113 days, making him by far the longest-serving manager in a single stint in the club’s history.
El Cholo already holds the record for the Atlético boss with the most consecutive days in charge. On July 19 he reached 2,037 days, beating the previous mark set by Ricardo Zamora in the early 1940s, when the club was known as Atlético Avación. Simeone currently stands on 2,083, with only Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger and Angers’ Stéphane Moulin having been in charge of their clubs longer across Europe’s top five leagues.

However, even by 2020 Simeone will not have reached the mark set by Luis Aragonés, who was in charge of Atlético for a total of 4,295 days, although the Wise Man of Hortaleza did so over the course of four separate spells: 1974-1978, 1982-1986, 1991-1993 and 2001-2003.
Simeone would need to remain at Atlético until April 6, 2023 to overtake Aragonés’ overall record.
