Back on 13th September, Cristiano overtook the 396 appearances which Alfredo Di Stéfano made for Real Madrid and on Sunday against Espanyol, he moved on to equal the number of games which another club legend, Juanito played for Los Blancos - 401. Juanito, who like Cristiano, wore the number 7 shirt, made 401 appearances for Real Madrid during his 10-year spell at the club, from 1977 until his departure in 1987.
Cristiano closing in on Madrid legends' appearances
Cristiano currently sits in excellent company in the all-time appearances table for Real Madrid and, assuming he doesn't pick up any serious injuries, should overtake a few more famous names this season. Soon, he will be in the top 20. He is just one game away from equalling the games which another of Madrid's most emblematic players - Manuel Velázquez who made his 402 appearances during 12 seasons of loyal service to the club. This season could see him pass a handful of other Real Madrid legends including Zoco, who turned out 434 times for the club, and depending on the rotation of Zidane, teammate Marcelo, on 416.
Although some legends' totals will be reached, Cristiano is a long way off equalling the record of 741 appearances that Raúl made in the white shirt.
