Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano is close to leaving San Diego FC
The Mexican forward has not had any game time with his current club; here’s where he could continue his career after the World Cup.
Hirving Lozano’s European adventure came to an end in January 2025, when he left PSV Eindhoven to join San Diego FC. His move to Major League Soccer, however, has fallen well short of the fairytale many expected.
Eighteen months later, Lozano is searching for a new club after being sidelined by San Diego FC following disciplinary issues and internal tensions. The club’s board and coaching staff have reportedly informed the Mexican winger that he is no longer part of their plans.
After being turned down by several clubs in both MLS and Liga MX, Lozano now appears close to leaving San Diego while remaining in Major League Soccer. LA Galaxy are said to be among the clubs interested in signing the Mexican forward.
According to ESPN, San Diego FC would only consider a loan deal and are not prepared to include an option to buy, meaning Lozano could continue his career elsewhere in California.
Lozano’s last appearance came on 29 November 2025, in San Diego FC’s defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, a match in which he scored what remains his most recent MLS goal.
He has not played since, and his inability to secure a move away from the club ultimately contributed to him missing last summer’s World Cup.
Since arriving in January 2025, Lozano has made 34 appearances in all competitions for San Diego FC, scoring 11 goals and providing 9 assists.
