Cholo Simeone reaches 500-game milestone with Atlético
Out of his 500 games for Atleti, 172 were as a player and 328 as a coach. Ahead of him are two legends: Luis Aragonés (980) and Adelardo (550).
Diego Simeone reached 500 games for Atlético de Madrid during the weekend draw at Leganés. Of those 500 games, 172 have been as a player with the remaining 328 as the team's coach. The Argentine is the third person in the club's history to have completed the most games with the Rojiblancos, either out on the pitch or in the dug-out. Ahead of him are two Atleti giants - Luis Aragonés and Adelardo, two of the most emblematic men to have graced the club.
Atleti's loyal servants, Luis and Adelardo
Luis Aragonés clocks almost twice as many games as Simeone: El Sabio de Hortaleza defended Atlético's red and white colours in 980 games - 368 as a player and 612 during four different stints as coach. In second place is Adelardo Rodríguez who just during his playing days, represented the club on 550 occasions - more times than any other player. Adelardo never got to manage the Rojiblancos though, and that is why he remains on 550.
With 31 LaLiga games ahead Simeone could get very close to Adelardo's tally this season if the team enjoys a decent run in both the Champions League and Copa del Rey.
