Valdano: "Asensio reminds me a bit of Messi with Argentina"
The Argentine former player and coach made a striking comparison between Real Madrid's young forward and the Barcelona star. He also spoke about Antoine Griezmann.
Jorge Valdano gave his thoughts on a few of the current topics in the game and reviewed the weekend action with Onda Cero programme El Transistor. The Argentine former player and coach praised Atlético de Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann and weighed up the state of play at Real Madrid. But the highlight of his chat was what he had to say about Marco Asensio. Valdano feels that the 21-year-old can shine in any of the forward positions but couldn't resist comparing him to Leo Messi in his role with Argentina, and explained that sometimes, the ball doesn't always reach Asensio when Madrid attack.
Atlético's 1-1 draw with Barça: "I really enjoyed the match. I thought that Atleti could and should have wrapped the game up sooner".
Valdano impressed by Griezmann's humility
Griezmann: "It's very difficult for a player who has world superstar status to retain the kind of humility that Antoine Griezmann shows".
Real Madrid cannot afford to slip up
Real Madird, five points adrift: "There's no question that Real Madrid have talent to spare but their situation in the table means that they can no longer allow any margin for error against their rivals".
Asensio: "Marco Asensio will perform well in any position but he reminds me a little of Messi when he plays with Argentina. Whenever he gets the ball, something happens but he can go for long period when he's out of the game because his team mates don't manage to find him".
