Reports coming out of Spain state that Philippe Coutinho is still a prime target for FC Barcelona and that the player's club, Liverpool FC, have named their price if a January sale is to happen.

Coutinho price set for Barça and others

Coutinho filled the sporting headlines throughout the summer as Barcelona tried, and tried, and tried again, to sign the creative midfielder. His club, Liverpool, stood firm amidst the eye-watering sums being offered - a knock-on effect of the Catalan club selling Neymar Jr to PSG for a world record value - and the transfer window closed with no movement. According to Spanish media El Mundo, the transfer saga is kicking off again with conversations taking place between the key representatives and the Premier League club have made it clear what price needs to be paid if someone is to take him away from Anfield.

The amount being quoted for Coutinho is 150 million euros, and nothing less. This would make The Reds' number 10 the second most expensive transfer in football history, behind his aforementioned compatriot. What has not been clear is if there is any option to include players in the opposite direction to make up some of the value, especially as Liverpool's perceived current issues revolve around their defence and goalkeeper rather than their creativity.

PSG show interest in Barça-Liverpool tussle

El Mundo report that Coutinho’s representative, Kia Joorabchian, was in London on Monday and he is currently working as an intermediary between the two clubs. He has apparently relayed the information about the 150 million euro demand to the hierarchy at Barcelona. The LaLiga leaders, though, appear to be keen to continue with their summer strategy whereby there are a number of add-ons for objectives being reached by club and player.

Other than not being able, or willing, to meet Liverpool's conditions another risk to Barcelona capturing their long-term Iniesta replacement comes in a familiar guise. Paris Saint-Germain have also asked Joorabchian to keep them abreast of the discussions.
