The Portuguese spoke to BeIn Sports after the Champions League defeat to Tottenham, and admitted that Madrid miss Morata, Pepe, and James Rodríguez. Champions League Final: Real Madrid - Liverpool
Cristiano Ronaldo appeared in a ‘flash interview’ with BeIn Sports immediately after Real Madrid’s 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in the Champions League. The 32-year-old scored a consolation goal for Los Blancos with ten minutes remaining on a torrid night for Zinedine Zidane’s side.
Ronaldo offered his thoughts on Real Madrid's current predicament, provided an update on his plans for the future, and compared Madrid's current squad to last season's crop of players.
Real Madrid "are used to winning"
What are your thoughts on the match and on the group?
It’s bad because we’ve lost, and we’re used to winning. It’s a bad spell. It isn’t how we wanted, but things change in football. It’s a bad run of results, but we want to change things and I’m sure that we’re going to. We still have a lot of time to improve and I’m convinced that we’re going to do so.
What has happened in the last few matches?
Nothing has happened. We’re can’t always play well. We’re not as we wanted to be, but I don’t see things to be that bad, nor are we playing that badly. We have to keep the faith.
Is there a problem with attitude?
People are looking for things, but I’m confident in this team and that things change.
You were trying to encourage your team-mates when the scoreline was 3-0…
When you’re losing things are as you want them to be, and you want to support your team-mates. Their first goal was offside and the second goal [for Girona] was offside too.
Are you worried?
What counts is how things end, not now.
Ronaldo does not want to renew Real Madrid contract
Do you see yourself at Real Madrid for years to come?
You never know about that. I have four years on my contract. I don’t want to renew. I’m good.
Are you sure?
I don’t want to renew.
Is the current Real Madrid squad worse than the squad last season?
All of the players that left in the summer made us stronger. It’s not an excuse, but players like Pepe, James, Morata… they made us stronger. The guys [that have come in] are the future, but they’re young.
