LEVANTE

Enes Ünal could make Levante debut against Girona

The Turkey forward, who moved to the Ciutat de Valencia from Villarreal earlier in the week, completed his first training session with The Frogs on Thursday.

Enes Ünal completed his first training session with Levante on Thursday after completing an unusual mid-season switch to the Ciutat de Valencia from Villarreal three days earlier.

The Turkey forward, 20, initially though the offer of a loan to Levante was “a joke,” as he was unaware such a move could be sanctioned with the season in full flow but said he didn’t think twice about it when the transfer was suggested. “I decided to come to Levante to improve, score goals and play games,” said the former Manchester City player, who joined Villarreal on a permanent deal from the Etihad for 12 million euros last summer.

At the Estadio de la Céramica, Ünal featured in six Liga games, three Europa League matches and one Copa del Rey fixture but only amassed 510 minutes and a single goal. His only starts came against Levante in the opening game of the season, which his new side won 1-0, and Getafe.

Ünal may make his debut for Levante against Girona on Sunday if Juan Muñiz deems him fit enough after sitting out Villarreal’s last four Liga games. The Turkey international is on loan at the Ciutat de Valencia until the end of the season, although the Yellow Submarine inserted a clause into the deal to allow them to bring him back in January.
