Lopetegui unsurprised by competitive Russia

Julen Lopetegui spoke to the press after his Spain team played out an entertaining 3-3 draw with Russia in Saint Petersburg. The result ensures that La Roja will close out 2017 without tasting defeat.
Lopetegui not surprised by strong Russia
Ready for the World Cup: “There are six months to go and a lot of things can happen. In March we have two matches and I hope that between now and then the players stay fit, achieve with their clubs, and maintain their level of performance.”
Russian quality: “They didn’t surprise me. They have high-level players like [Fedor] Smolov, who I’ve known for a long time, and they have their own motivation as they’re going to be the host [of the World Cup].”
Rodrigo and Thiago not seriously injured
Friendly matches: “We’ve competed well in these two friendles. The team has shown willpower, attitude, and they’ve been at a good level. We’ve seen all the players who came, which was another objective.”
Injuries: “Rodrigo is fine, it’s nothing major. And Thiago as well.”
