Zidane denies Carvajal forced a yellow card against APOEL
The Real Madrid manager spoke ahead of the weekend fixture against Málaga and said he was surprised at the fuss that was created after the incident with his defender.
Zinedine Zidane spoke to the gathered media ahead of Real Madrid's match on Saturday against Málaga and responded to the story that right back Dani Carvajal deliberately attempted to earn a yellow card against APOEL.
Carvajal didn't force any booking says Zidane
Uefa have said that they will look into the incident further on December 7 to determine whether or not sanctions should be brought against the Spanish player. The booking that he received in the final moments of the game in Cyprus means that he is unable to play in the final group game (one that has little meaning) and will have a clean slate to go into the knock-out phase of the Champions League.
"I'm surprised by the whole mess," said the French coach laughing, "he did not force anything. What happened happened and that's that."
Portuguese referee Artur Dias brandished the caution in the 89th minute of the game, after the defender delayed taking a throw in. What Uefa decide is likely to depend upon what was written in the official's match report.
