Deportivo Alavés have sacked Italian head coach Gianni de Biasi "in the wake of the team's recent results in LaLiga", the club announced on Monday afternoon.

De Biasi fired after just two months as Alavés boss

De Biasi, 61, departs only two months after replacing Luis Zubeldia as coach, having lost five and won just two of his seven league games in charge of the Basques.

Saturday's 2-1 home loss to Eibar, which left Alavés bottom of the LaLiga table - six points from safety - proved the final straw for the board at Mendizorroza.

"We would like to place on record our gratitude to Gianni de Biasi for his hard work during this period, and wish him the best of luck for the future," Alavés said.

Javier Cabello to take caretaker charge

Just as he did following the sacking of Zubeldia in September, assistant coach Javier Cabello will oversee first-team affairs until a new boss is appointed.
