Málaga seems to be finding their feet after picking up points in their last two outings against Levante and Real Sociedad but they remain loldged in the drop zone. Míchel, who side play host to Betis tomorrow night, gave his thoughts on how 2017 has turned out for the southerners. “The good part was when I arrived at the club but the other part, the suffering we've been through over the past few weeks, hasn't been so good. But regardless of all that, we are continue to press forward. If you had asked me to give an overview of the year three weeks ago, or even last week before the Real Sociedad game, the outlook was pretty bleak. Winning Monday's game will give us the impulse which we really really need”.

Diego Rolan. “He's fine, he's in the list. We'll need to have a think about whether to play him from the start or have him on the bench because he's spent a few days working to a personalized training programme (he's been carrying an Achilles problem). He's only been back with the group for the last two sessions”.

Míchel, amazed at the criticism Setién has received

Have you been surprised by the criticism which Quique Setién has been subjected to? “Yes, I'm very surprised. I was also surprised that [Real Sociedad coach] Eusebio was questioned last week. It's very easy to question what coaches do because at the end of the day, we're the ones who are constantly on a tightrope. Everyone has their opinion about coaches and an opinion about the work other people do. But to question Quique Setién as a coach? I'm flabberghasted - that's a very daring thing to do. I know this kind of thing happens everywhere but I don't know what Betis' expectations are regarding their team. They've had moments when they've played some superb football. Maybe they've dipped in that area recently but that's no reason to start questioning the coach. I sent him a text message last week. We spent some time chatting. Just think about for a moment - he's sent a message from a coach whose side are in the relegation places...

Sandro eager to leave Everton and return to Málaga on loan

Do you see Sandro coming back to Málaga in January? “I do, yes. Normally, I'd use a phrase which I've heard said to me on many occasions - footballers play where they want to play. Sandro is keen to come back, he wants to play for Málaga. But after that, everything else is subjective and depends on how the situation evolves and how negotiations develop too because I have it from the horse's mouth, that he wants to return to Málaga”.
