Fifa have confirmed receipt of an official complaint from Atlético Madrid against FC Barcelona for contacting Antoine Greizmann’s representatives regarding a potential summer move from the Metropolitano to Camp Nou.

"We have received a report from Atlético Madrid about the Griezmann case," a Fifa spokesperson told German news wire DPA on Wednesday.

Atlético filed the complaint after it was reported in Barcelona-based daily Mundo Deportivo that Camp Nou president Josep Maria Bartomeu had had lunch with Greizmann’s family (the player’s sister is his representative), which was apparently confirmed by Barça director of institutional relations, Guillermo Amor, during a televised interview.

Griezmann renewed his contract at Atlético until 2022 last June and under Fifa regulations clubs are not permitted to approach a player until there are fewer than six months remaining on a deal.

Atlético, themselves under a transfer ban that led Griezmann to commit the club, are furious at what they perceive as an attempt to tap the France striker up and even the cordial relations between Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín and Bartomeu were not enough to prevent the Madrid club from taking their ire to Fifa.

Atlético’s complaint is not the only one against Barcelona on file at Fifa headquarters. Santos have flagged up the Liga club’s “harassment” in trying to sign Lucas Lima while Grêmio have also made a formal complaint after the Brazilian side’s star midfielder Arthur Melo was pictured in a Barcelona shirt with Camp Nou sporting director Robert Fernández after the Copa Libertadores final, which a delegation from Barça was present at to run the rule over the 21-year-old.
