Barcelona ace Lionel Messi returns to the scene of his dramatic late winner - and memorable celebration - last April, and to a stadium which has proved a happy hunting ground for the Argentine. Indeed, the majority of Messi's career goals in El Clásico - 14 out of 23 - have come at the Bernabéu, rather than the Camp Nou.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo's disappointing start to the season in front of goal (chiefly in LaLiga), the Portuguese is actually now on very similar figures to Messi in 2017/18: the Real Madrid striker has 16 in all competitions, only two shy of his Barcelona counterpart's total so far of 18.

Luis Suárez is well short of Cristiano and Messi's numbers in 2017: while the two superstars are tied on 53 goals each for club and country this calendar year, the Uruguayan is back on 33. That's quite a drop from 2016, when Suárez bagged no fewer than 54. Meanwhile, Karim Benzema is enduring his worst season at Real Madrid when it comes to finding the net, having mustered just five in all competitions.

Paulinho: Barcelona's goalscoring dark horse

When he signed for Barcelona in the summer, few would have imagined that Paulinho would provide the Blaugrana with such a boost to the goals-for column. The Brazilian midfielder is the team's third-highest marksman this term, with six goals to his name.

Mayoral and Alcácer: reliable reserves 

Borja Mayoral and Paco Alcácer are both far from being regulars at Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively, but the reserve strikers don't let anyone down when they do get a run-out: Mayoral scores every 109 minutes for Los Blancos, while Alcácer is on target for the Catalans every 122 minutes.
