Barça, biggest winter spenders followed by Liverpool and City

The Catalan club were the biggest spenders this transfer window with an outlay of 172 million euro in a market once again dominated by the Premier League.

No other club spent as much money in the global winter transfer window this year as FC Barcelona. A total of 131.8 million euros was invested on the acquisitions of Coutinho and Yerry Mina with the figure not taking into account the variables associated with the Brazilian's move from Liverpool.

Liverpool themselves were the second biggest spenders with the acquisition of former Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk for 78.8 million euros constituting the bulk of their winter outlay. Manchester City complete the big spenders' podium with €71.5 M  invested on Athletic Bilbao player Laporte costing Guardiola €65 M.

11 clubs spent more than Serie A combined

"Just" 24.6 million euro changed hand in Serie A deals with struggling Sassuolo the league's top spenders with an outlay of 8.5 million euros and ten European sides and one CSL outfit alone spent more than the outlay of Serie A combined: LaLiga (Barcelona, Atlético and Athletic), Premier League (Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton and Tottenham) along Bundesliga side Dortmund and Chinese team Beijing Sinobo Gouan.
