Barcelona face a month without Nelson Semedo
The right-back has suffered a tear to his left hamstring. He is due to undergo more extensive tests but initial signs are not promising.
Nélson Semedo was nearing the end of a solid, all-round performance against Girona when he felt a stinging pain to his left hamstring just minute before the final whistle. The player was attended to by Doctor Ricard Pruna, before hobbling back to the changing rooms. From the awkward, pained way he was walking, it doesn't look too good for Semedo. Barça issued a medical report shortly after the game had ended which confirmed that the full-back had suffered "an injury to his left hamstring muscle", but didn't specify how long the player could be out.
Semedo could be out for four to six weeks
AS understands that the first sensations within the dressing were not promising and that there was talk that the defender could face a month on the sidelines. It hasn't been ruled out that Semedo could be out for even longer - possibly six weeks. But medical staff will have a clear idea of the recovery time once more tests are run over the next 24 hours.
Earlier in the game, Piqué came off slightly worse for wear following a hefty challenge from Pere Pons and was replaced by Thomas Vermaelen, so Valverde's team ended the match on 10 men after Semedo had quit the field injured.
