Iniesta a serious doubt for Chelsea return leg
The Barcelona midfielder limped off in Camp Nou with a hamstring injury after a challenge with Saúl and is unlikely to feature against the Premier League side in 10 days' time.
Barcelona could well have to contend without club captain and midfield talisman Andrés Iniesta for their return leg in the last 16 of the Champions League against Chelsea in Camp Nou after the Spain international limped out of Sunday’s game against Atlético Madrid with a hamstring injury.
Iniesta initially left the pitch after a challenge with Sime Vrsaljko but was able to return briefly before asking to be substituted in the 35th minute after another tangle with Saúl which appeared to exacerbate the problem. André Gomes came on in his place.
Iniesta facing fitness race for Chelsea return
With the fixtures piling up in LaLiga injuries are hindering most clubs and Barcelona are no exception. The club confirmed in a statement that Iniesta had suffered a hamstring issue and that tests would confirm how long he may be sidelined for but it appears unlikely he will be available to face Chelsea on March 14 in the second leg of a tie finely poised at 1-1.
