Following Manchester United Champions League exit at the hands of Sevilla, we look back on some of the Portuguese manager's worst moments in football.

Real Madrid 1-2 Atlético Madrid

After a poor season, Real Madrid had the chance to give some happiness to their supporters by winning the Copa del Rey final against neighbouring rivals Atlético Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. However, Los Blancos were defeated, for the first time in the last 14 years against Atlético, and Los Colchoneros lifted the title at their rival's stadium. Mourinho was sent off during the game and he didn’t go back to pick up his medal. You could hardly think of a worse way for his Real Madrid tenure to end.

Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid

The hammering happened in Mourinho’s first season as Real Madrid coach. He was signed with the goal of stopping the best Barcelona side ever, as he had done in the Champions League semi-finals with Inter Milan. However, Barcelona secured an historic 5-0 victory in Mourinho’s first ‘Clásico’.

Borussia Dortmund 4-1 Real Madrid

The Champions League draw had Real Madrid as favourites to qualify and face Barcelona in the final as Los Blancos were playing against Borussia Dortmund and Los Culés against Bayern Munich in the semi-finals . Real Madrid's dream of winning the Champions League against their great rival was becoming a distinct possibility. However, neither of them reached the final. Mourinho’s side fell against Dortmund with one of Real Madrid's worst games in the Champions League after they lost 4-1 in the first leg, which effectively ended the tie.

Chelsea 2-2 PSG

In the first leg of the last eight of the Champions League, Chelsea got a good result at PSG earning a 1-1 draw. And in the second game, things couldn’t have looked better for Mourinho’s side. PSG had to play with 10 men from the 31st minute as Ibrahimovic was sent off and Cahill scored to give Chelsea the lead in the 81st. However, David Luiz made it 1-1 in the 86th and in extra time PSG were able to secure a 2-2 which meant PSG continued and Chelsea were eliminated.

Manchester United 1-2 Sevilla

The most recent in Mourinho's series of painful defeats. Manchester United fans have been watching neighbours Manchester City commanding the Premier League and they had put all their hopes into a good run in the Champions League. However, Manchester United played defensively in the first leg and just as poor in the second leg, never proving they deserved to qualify. After a 0-0 at Sánchez Pizjuán, Sevilla secured a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford that destroyed United’s dreams.
