Barcelona 3-0 Chelsea Champions League: goals, action
Barça v Chelsea | Barcelona were too strong for Conte's side, with a Messi double and a Dembélé blaster giving Valverde's team a comfortable victory. LAFC vs LA Galaxy: Vela vs Zlatan live online, MLS week 25
Barcelona sauntered through to the quarter-final of the Champions League as Ousmane Dembélé's first goal for the club added to a Lionel Messi double.
Individual errors pockmarked Chelsea's performance from the outset. After three minutes, Messi threaded the ball through Thibaut Courtois' legs from an angle that seemed impossibly acute. Seventeen minutes later Messi snatched the ball from a dawdling Fabregas and squared it to Dembélé. The 20-year-old took a touch to gain composure before firing the ball in to the depths of the top corner.
Marcos Alonso hit the post with a free-kick shortly before half-time and was denied a penalty five minutes after the interval. Chelsea were inferior, but also luckless. There was a sense of inevitability when Messi picked up the ball 30 yards out and skipped around two Chelsea players before firing the ball through Courtois' legs for a second time.
Barcelona 3-0 Chelsea (4-1): as it happened
90'+2' FT. Messi, Dembélé, and Messi again send Barcelona through to the quarter-final of the Champions League.
90' There will be two minutes of added time.
90' Ter Stegen is called in to action again, diving to his right to keep out a header from Rudiger. On second glance, it looks like there was some woodwork involved there, too.
88' Zappacosta twists inside and bends a shot towards the far corner. There isn't enough power behind it, and that's very easy for Ter Stegen.
85' Rakitic swings a corner towards Paulinho, who finds himself totally unmarked - and I mean no Chelsea players in a two-metre radius - and forces a smart reaction save from Courtois.
84' We're very much in the 'going through the motions' phase of the match. Barça know they're through, Chelsea know they're out.
82' Conte hauls Hazard off, and Pedro is on in his place. The ex-Barça man receives a lovely warm reception from Camp Nou.
79' Messi stings a free-kick towards the near post. It takes a slight deflection off Willian's sizeable barnet in the wall, and Courtois turns it behind for a corner. The Belgian 'keeper then collects the delivery himself and puts Chelsea back on the front foot.
77' Hazard does really well to get to the byline and cut the ball back. It trickles through the box, begging to be finished, but all of the other Chelsea players are ambling around the edge of the box.
75' Marcos Alonso is booked for a 50:50 challenge with Paulinho. Paulinho screamed louder, and thus won the free-kick.
73' Chelsea players raise their arms to the sky once again as Willian is barged over and the referee gives sweet Fanny Adams.
70' Zappacosta outmuscles Andre Gomes to win the ball on the right, but his cross is wild. Straight out of play and Ter Stegen picks up the ball for a goal kick.
68' Conte rolls the dice: Giroud and Moses off, Morata and Zappacosta on.
67' Another change for Barça: Vidal is on for Dembélé.
63' GOOOOOOOL! Messi! The outcome was obvious as soon as Messi picked up the ball from Suárez 30 yards out. He left Azpilicueta and Moses for dead before sliding the ball through Courtois' legs once again.
61' And here comes that change. Andre Gomes takes Busquets' place.
59' Sergio Busquets has just grimaced and signalled to the bench. It looks like he'll be heading off shortly.
56' Ernesto Valverde makes his first change of the night: Paulinho on for Iniesta, who hands the captains armband to Messi.
55' Azpilicueta receives the ball 40 yards out, drives forward, and chips the ball towards Alonso at the far post. It's a fraction too far ahead of him, and Barça have a goal kick.
53' One-way traffic at the moment, in Chelsea's favour.
50' Chelsea have a clear penalty ruled out. Willian threads the ball through to Alonso, he spins and goes through on goal. Piqué and Roberto barge in to the back of him, he falls over, and the referee inexplicably doesn't give it. Giroud is booked for his appeals and Conte goes ballistic on the touchline.
49' Superb defensive work from Dembélé, which is not what young, mercurial wingers are known for. He charges back towards his own goal and gets his toe on the ball as Alonso prepares to shoot.
48' Oooh, Suárez lashes the ball against Courtois' feet from inside the box. The Chelsea 'keeper positioned himself well.
46' Chelsea go straight on the attack. Victor Moses weaves between two challenges and wins a corner. Barça half clear and Willian looks for space to shoot. Umtiti blocks his bottom-corner-bound shot and Barça clear properly.
46' A Chelsea player kicks the football off the centre-spot and, with that, the second half commences.
The teams are back out!
97.183 fans rammed in to Camp Nou this evening. That's Barça biggest attendance of the season.
Messi and Dembélé have Barça in the lead at the break. The home side are undoubtedly in control, but Chelsea are absolutely in this. Conte's side played well, but errors from Courtois and Fabregas made the difference. If they get a goal early in the second half, it's back on...
45'+1' OFF THE POST! Marcos Alonso whips the ball over the wall and it skims off the outside of the upright.
44' Giroud flops under the grappling hands of Umtiti - the two are having a bit of a running battle - and wins a free-kick on the edge of the box. Willian is over it, hands on hips.
42' Willian scythes through Barça's midfield and looks for a one-two with Giroud on the edge of the box. He gives the 'one' and doesn't get the 'two' in return.
40' Giroud plants an elbow on Gerard Piqué's nose, and is quite lucky to escape without a booking.
37' Chelsea steam forward and Marcos Alonso stings ter Stegen's palms with a well-struck drive. There are half-hearted appeals for a handball in the box from the Chelsea players, but they soon switch back on as Kante surges through the last line of defence and drags a shot wide. Fabregas is irritated that Kante didn't leave it for him, but he would have been offside.
36' Barça knock the ball around nicely on the edge of the box until the ball falls to Iniesta, who shimmies on to his left peg and shoots wide.
33' Messi dips inside from the right flank. He does so too fast for Rudiger, who fouls the Argentine. Messi proceeds to place the ball a good five yards further infield than where the foul took place and delivers an inswinger to the near post. It narrowly evades the toe of Gerard Piqué and flops in to Courtois' arms.
32' Fabregas is having a bit of a stinker. He underhits a straightforward pass out to Moses.
30' Barcelona settle in to a spell of possession as the atmosphere lulls.
28' Succulent play from Andrés Iniesta, who dances in to the box and sets up Suárez with a back-heel. The No.9 tests Courtois, but the angle is narrow and Chelsea clear... for now.
25' Chelsea responded really well to conceding the first goal. There's been no such reaction following the second. The wind has gone from their sails.
23' Sergi Roberto is the first player in to the book. His crime was a flailing arm around the neck of Hazard, as the Belgian looked to break.
20' GOOOOOOOL! Dembélé! Fabregas concedes possession softly to his good pal Leo Messi, who bursts forward and commits Christensen. Dembélé ghosts in at the far post as Chelsea's defence shift across towards Messi, who plays the ball across to him. The French winger takes a touch before lashing the ball in to the depths of the top corner.
19' Hazard plucks the ball out of the air with a silken touch, drives inside, but sees his shot blocked by a sprawling Umtiti.
16' Christensen clambers all over the back of Suárez, lands on top of the Uruguayan, and both grimace while on the floor. They haul themselves up after the heavy contact, and on we go.
15' Sergio Busquets flicks the ball over Fabregas' head in the centre-circle. Ice-cold is the blood that courses through his veins.
12' Willian forces ter Stegen in to a save down to his right with a daisy-cutter from 25 yards. Really admirable response from Chelsea.
11' Umtiti body-checks Moses, allowing Fabregas to fling in a free-kick. He actually takes it short to Willian, who is the one to cross. Barça half clear before Rudiger shoots narrowly wide. The flag was already up against the German.
9' Chelsea have livened up, and unsurprisingly, Hazard is at the centre of it, buzzing around like a displeased wasp. Victor Moses also looks dangerous from the right.
6' Oooh! Willian's low delivery finds Rudiger at the near post, who flicks the ball in to the side netting. It took a touch on the way through so the referee awards another corner, which Barça clear.
5' Eden Hazard drives Chelsea forward and lays the ball to Alonso, who wins a foul from Dembélé. Willian trots over to deliver.
3' GOOOOOOOOL! Messi! There's a bit of pinball in the box as the ball bounces off Alonso, then Suárez, and in to Messi's path. From a very acute angle, he threads the ball through Courtois' legs at the near post. That's acquiescent goalkeeping, to put it mildly.
2' Constant possession for Barcelona, thus far. Very much a back five from Chelsea when the home side have the ball.
1' Peeeep! Barça get this show on the road.
Here they come! The floodlights shine through the haze and the Champions League anthem comes out through the speakers. It's whistled by the home fans.
The two teams are taking their place in the tunnel while a 'God Save The King' tifo goes up in the home end, accompanied by a picture of, surprise, Leo Messi.
Andre Gomes? The midfielder is on the bench for Barcelona, days after he told Spanish publication Revista Panenka that he "feels ashamed" of his time at the club. Gomes admitted that he doesn't want to leave his house sometimes, in an interview that Ernesto Valverde has called "brave".
Chelsea's Under-19s tasted success in Spain earlier today. The youngsters beat Real Madrid 4-2 to progress to the next round of the UEFA Youth League.
There are two slices of stand-out team news: for Barcelona, Iniesta is fit to start in the midfield three. For Chelsea, Álvaro Morata is dropped to the bench with Olivier Giroud favoured to lead the line. Hazard and Willian will hover around the French target man.
The Chelsea team have trotted out of the tunnel to begin their warm-up on the Camp Nou turf. They're sporting camouflage training tops. The 4,000 travelling fans will hope Chelsea are a bit more stylish in how they play than how they've dressed.
