Memphis Depay, Ryan Babel, and Virgil Van Dijk scored in the first half in Geneva as Ronald Koeman secured his first victory as the Netherlands coach.

Memphis Depay, Ryan Babel, and Virgil van Dijk netted for the Netherlands in a clinical first-half performance against Portugal in Geneva, as Ronald Koeman secured his first victory in charge of the Oranje

Portugal started the brightest, full of pep after a last-gasp victory over Egypt on Friday. Yet Memphis scored from the Netherlands' first meaningful counter-attack after 11 minutes. Babel doubled the lead with a bullet header shortly after the half-hour mark, and Liverpool's van Dijk made it three on the brink of half time with a crisp half-volley.

The match progressed at a pedestrian pace after the interval, not helped by a series of pitch invasions from fans in search of selfies. Portugal defender João Cancelo received a second yellow card after an hour to seal the fate of his team, as Cristiano Ronaldo failed to register a shot for the first time this season.

Portugal 0-3 Netherlands: as it happened

90'+3' FT.

90'+1'   Neto gets fed up and wallops the ball in the vague direction of Cillessen's goal - with vague being the operative word.

90'   We'll have three minutes of added time.

89'   Cillessen is back in action! Guedes meets Moutinho's free-kick with a header that the Dutch 'keeper has to tip wide. Less than a minute later, Van de Beek comes to the rescue with a superb block on the goal-line to prevent Andre Silva converted Martins' cross.

87'   Little to report here. The Portuguese fans are raucous, but the match they're watching is very pedestrian. Oooh! Action! Guedes sees his shot deflected towards the bottom corner. Cillessen sees said shot in to his arms.

84' Ryan Babel makes way for Berghuis, while De Ligt makes way for Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

83' Portugal are applying some half-hearted pressure. A lot of possession in the Dutch half, not much penetration.

78' Joao Mario replaces Bruno Fernandes for Portugal.

77'   Double change for the Dutch. Til replaces Tete. Justin Kluivert replaces Memphis. Both of those players will make their debuts.

77'   The lively Gelson Martins ducks on to his right foot, dives on to his left, and fires over.

74'   Mario Rui thumps the ball towards the far corner from 35 yards, forcing Cillessen to turn it behind for a corner. Portugal have a couple of chances to deliver the ball, but fail to trouble the sturdy Dutch defence.

72' Marten De Roon goes in to the book. His crime was to catch Gelson Martins' ankle. The Atalanta midfielder holds his hand up in acknowledgment.

71'   The referee stands between Mario Rui and Van de Beek to prevent verbals evolving in to handbags.

68' Joao Moutinho replaces Cristiano Ronaldo.

67' Ronald Koeman shuffles his pack. De Vrij comes on in the place of Vilhena. That move will probably see Ake move to wing-back. De Roon also replaces Wijnaldum.

65'   Ronaldo tries a step-over, misjudges it, gives the ball away. He's not had a particularly good game, but as we all know, could still pop up at any moment.

63'   Three pitch invaders - one of whom appeared to be a dwarf - come on for selfies with Ronaldo and are swiftly beckoned off by stewards.

61' He's off! It's not quite the Battle of Nuremburg, but Joao Cancelo is off for a late, stretching tackle on Vilhena. He can't have any complaints.

58'   Ronaldo dashes on to Martins' through-ball and holds off Ake for long enough to Cruyff-turn inside and curl the ball to the near post. Cillessen plucks it out of the air.

56' Kenny Tete is booked for grappling in the box followed by a side-serving of dissent.

56' Fernando Santos makes another change: Gelson Martins on, Quaresma off.

55'   Cancelo marauds down the right and centres the ball, prompting Cillessen to dive out and punch to the edge of the box. Quaresma tries to chip the ball to the far post, but De Ligt nods it clear.

51'   Ronaldo outmuscles Ake, rolls the ball under his foot, and faces up against the Bournemouth defender. A stepover or two later the ball comes in to the box, but it's overhit. From the restart, the Netherlands settle in to an Olé-inducing spell of possession.

49'   It's been end-to-end. Adrian Silva's shot cannons off Van Dijk and the Netherlands blast forward. When that move breaks down on the edge of the box, Portugal blast straight back and force Cillessen in to tipping a fierce cross over his own bar. The blue-shirted Dutchmen clear, but it's Portugal who have made the brighter start.

48'   Oooof! Superb save from Cillessen. It was Quaresma who whipped the ball in to the head of Ronaldo, who had made a clever run to the near post. He nods the ball to the far corner, where Cillessen scoops it away. The linesman raised his flag for offside in any case.

47'   Vilhena shoves Guedes with a little too much vigour, and the Valencia winger will swing in a free-kick from the right touchline.

46' Off we go for the second half!

46' Three changes for Portugal: Adrien Silva off, Guedes on. Rolando off, Neto on. Andre Gomes off, Andre Silva on.

The players are trotting back out for the second half...

Portugal made the brighter start in Switzerland, but Fernando Santos' side have been perpetually vulnerable on the counter attack. Memphis and Babel took advantage to put the Dutch ahead, and Virgil van Dijk made it three in added time.

45'+2' HT.

45'+1' GOOOOOOL! Van Dijk! The defensive basics have deserted Portugal. De Ligt meets Memphis' cross at the far post and heads it back to Van Dijk, who guides it in to the bottom corner with a swish of his right boot.

45'+1'   Depay goes down under the challenge of Bruno Fernandes, and gets back up to deliver the ball from the right.

45' The fourth official holds his board aloft to signal two minutes of additional footballing mirth.

44' Joao Cancelo is booked  for a scything tackle from behind on Wijnaldum. You would presume the referee would have been less lenient if this were a competetive match.

43'   What a save from Lopes! Portugal are exposed again on the counter-attack and only an airborn save from the 'keeper prevents Memphis nodding in for his second goal of the evening.

42'   Adrien Silva chips a through ball to Bruno Fernandes. He takes the ball down and shoots in an instant, but again, Cillessen watches it in to his arms.

40'   Manuel Fernandes eyes up the space behind Cillessen and takes aim with an audacious dink. The Barcelona 'keeper has read his devious intentions, and takes a couple of steps back before catching the ball.

39'   The Dutch are looking far more, well, Dutch, as the game ambles towards the interval. Tete and Van de Beek combine nicely on the edge of the Portuguese box. The move comes to an end when Memphis can't keep Propper's deep cross in play. Good stuff from Koeman's chaps, though.

35'   De Ligt rubs his neck after an aerial challenge with Ronaldo. The teenager grimaces, but it's nothing more serious than a bit of discomfort.

32' GOOOOOOL! Ryan Babel bullet header! Mathias De Ligt lashes the ball in to the box with such venom that Babel just has to guide it in to the corner and the 'keeper has no chance.

31'   Cristiano Ronaldo is furious at the referee. He throws his arm up in a petulent explosion of rage. The replays reveal that he just kicked the floor.

28'   Nathan Ake is slightly flustered as Ronaldo's low ball comes in to the box. The Bournemouth defender scuffs it back to Cillessen, who stretches to prevent the ball going out for a corner before clearing.

26'   Ronaldo is close to meeting Manuel Fernandes' cross on the edge of the six-yard box, but Jasper Cillessen plucks it from the air and sets the Netherlands forward on an attack.

24'   The Portugal fans are in good voice as Adrien Silva slices through Davy Propper in the centre of the pitch. The referee responds with a toot of his whistle.

21'   Wijnaldum takes Jose Fonte's clearance down on his knee on the edge of the box, and lashes the ball towards goal. He leans back at the crucial moment and sends it in to the crowd.

20'   De Ligt - who is remarkably accomplished for an 18-year-old - mops up after Tete loses the ball on the right.

16'   Ake rubs his head in frustration after wedging a through-ball straight to the Portuguese 'keeper. Up at the other end, Ronaldo wins a corner and Jose Fonte and Rolando rumble up to the opposition box. Quaresma's delivery is devilish, but the Netherlands clear.

15'   We have entered the post-goal lull. Although the opener does appear to have give the Netherlands an injection of confidence.

12' GOOOOOOOL! Memphis! The Netherlands had been waiting patiently, methodically, for Portugal to concede possession. When they did, the Oranje stride forward. An inside ball from Davy Propper really open up the counter-attack. The Dutch work it out to the right, Kenny Tete cuts it back to Van de Beek, and Memphis stabs in his cross-cum-shot from close range.

10'   Portugal have dominated the opening ten minutes. All 11 Dutch players are camped in their own half.

8'   There are a few squeals from the sparse crowd as Ronaldo touches the ball in midfield. The Real Madrid man releases Quaresma on the right, and the winger, fully recovered, wins a corner. The Netherlands clear but Portugal retain possession.

7'   Ricardo Quaresma is grimacing on the floor, his hands clasped over his face. He seemed to go down off the ball... he's back up now, holding his abdominal area. He'll be alright.

5'   Ronaldo dances through a couple of challenges and lays the ball towards Mario Rui, galloping down the left. The ball is a little ahead of Rui, who holds up his hand to thank Ronaldo for the thought.

3'   Feyenoord's Vilhena - playing in a deeper role than usual as a left wing-back - has a nibble at Ronaldo's heels, which turns in to a big old bite. The No.7 goes down and wins a free-kick.

2'   Nathan Ake flings a long, diagonal pass towards Kenny Tete, but Rui is alert to the danger.

1' Peeeep! We're underway in Geneva!

"He is one of those players that always scores. Even when the team is playing badly, they have the ability to score out of nothing." No prizes for guessing which Portugal player Ronald Koeman is speaking about here... Read the Dutchman's full pre-match comments here.

Memphis Depay doing so top-corner tuckery during the warm-up in Geneva. The 24-year-old has scored 10 goals in 28 games for Lyon in Ligue 1 this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo is in fine form for Fernando Santos' team. We all know about his prolific start to 2018 for Real Madrid, but he has also scored 20 goals in his last 15 national team matches.

Buenas noches! Portugal face the Netherlands in the pick of this evening's international fixtures (unless you happen to be from Andorra or Equiqorial Guinea) and we'll be guiding you right through.
