Modric not training for Real Madrid and a doubt for Málaga
The Croatian played his part in the Champions League thriller against Juventus on Wednesday and Zinedine Zidane doesn't want to take risks with key stars.
Real Madrid returned to training after qualifying for the Champions League semi-finals but did so with Luka Modric absent.
Modric likely to be saved for Munich
The Croatian left procedings at the Santiago Bernabéu in the 74th minute, which was related to a challenge from Matuidi in the first half. Despite being in some discomfort, he had wanted to remain on the field to help his team come through what had become a much more complicated second leg than anticipated after the 0-3 victory in Turin. Zidane replaced him with Kovacic.
On Friday, as Los Blancos trained ahead of their LaLiga trip to Málaga, Modric went through some exercises inside the Valdebebas facilities, and is a doubt for Sunday's game. Next Wednesday, Madrid play against Athletic Bilbao and then have a week's break until they play the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern in Munich. With little at stake domestically, all of Zidane's focus must be on ensuring that his first team is ready, both physically and mentally, so is unlikely to take any risks in the next two games against teams sitting in the bottom half (in Málaga's case, rock bottom).
Another player to miss training with the first team was Dani Carvajal, who left everything he had on the field against Juve. He is, however, expected to play in Málaga.
