Egyptian club Zamalek sack head coach Ehab Galal

This is the 23rd coach the club has sacked in four years and many are looking at the situation under the president as a crisis.

Egyptian club Zamalek sack head coach Ehab Galal

Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek SC have officially sacked manager Ehab Galal following a 2-1 defeat to El-Ittihad on Thursday.

Galal, 50, became the 23rd head coach to be sacked since Mortada Mansour became club president four years ago.

Before the defeat to El-Ittihad, the Giza side was also knocked out of the Confederation Cup by Ethiopia’s Welayta Dicha.

In 17 games, Galal won eight, drew two and lost seven.

He has been replaced by his namesake Khaled Galal who will occupy the post as a caretaker.

Zamalek in crisis

Last week, Galal had resigned from his post after a 1-0 defeat to Misr Lel-Makasa, however, he was reappointed on Monday after a meeting with Zamalek’s officials.

Now, he is unemployed again.

Zamalek is currently third in the Egyptian Premier League, but they are 25 points behind leaders Al Ahly.

This season, the Gaza side, also known as ‘The Whites’, lost to each Al Ahly, Al Masry, Misr El-Makkasa, El-Ittihad, and Welayta Dicha twice.

The club is currently suffering from a financial and coaching crisis.

In September, when the season started, Zamalek’s board hired the Montenegrin Nebojša Jovović to bring back the glory days to the club.

He lasted for only 129 days, the longest since the Portuguese Jesualdo Ferreira took charge for 285 days in 2015.

Jovović name added was to a vast list of sacked coaches.

Regarding the financial situation of the club, Zamalek’s bank accounts were freeze in March 2016 after former chairman Mamdouh Abbas, who left in 2014, claimed he loaned the club EGP42 million during his stint as president, money that’s still unpaid.

The freezing of Zamalek’s assets has led to the club being warned by Fifa of point deductions and other penalties if late payments are not made to various players.
