Heynckes rests six thinking about Real Madrid in the Champions League
The Bayern Munich coach is focused on this coming Wednesday's Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid
"Logically I won't play from the start against Hannover some of the players who played against Leverkusen on Tuesday", Jupp Heynckes, coach of Bayern Munich, said on Friday. And he was true to his word.
The Bayern Munich gaffer who has masterfully taken the side to their 28th Bundesliga title left six players on the bench who would be expected to start against Real Madrid in their Champions League first leg: Kimmich, Hummels, Javi Martínez, Müller, Ribéry and Lewandowski.
After half-time Heynckes took Robben off and brought Müller on, who put Bayern ahead in the 56th minute. Lewandowski, who came on in the 66th minute, made it 0-2. Rudy bagged the third near the end to seal a 0-3 win.
Alaba expected to play against Real Madrid
To the six players who started on the bench today, and will almost certainly start against Real Madrid on Wednesday night, should be added David Alaba, who didn't play against Hannover with a back niggle, but who is expected to be fit to play Zidane's men.
Arturo Vidal, Coman and Tolisso are all out injured.
Real Madrid more rested thanks to the Copa del Rey
Looking at the calender, Real Madrid come into the Champions League semi final with more rest than Bayern. Three days more in fact. Madrid's last game ahead of this match was last Wednesday's draw against Athletic at the Bernabéu. They're not in action this weekend because their scheduled game against Sevilla is postponed with the Andalusian side playing in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. Bayern on the other hand were in action against Hannover, although Heynckes left six starters on the bench.
