Fenerbahce-Besiktas: Postponed derby to be resumed on May 3
The Turkish Cup semi-final second leg was abandoned after Besiktas manager Senol Gunes was hit by an object thrown from the crowd.
The Turkish Cup semi-final second leg between Fenerbahce and Besiktas, which was suspended last week over crowd disruptions, will be played from where it left off in the 57th minute on Thursday, May 3, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced on Wednesday.
However, the Istanbul derby will continue with no fans in attendance.
Turkey’s Professional Football Discipline Board also ruled that Fenerbahce must pay a fine of one million Turkish lira and play three home matches behind closed doors.
Fan misbehaviour
Gunes had to receive several stiches in his head.
After the incident, referee Mete Kalkavan decided to suspend the match.
Fenerbahce were on track to reach the final, having previously drawn 2-2 in the first leg, with former Real Madrid defender Pepe sent off for Besiktas in the first half of the second leg with the score 0-0.
31 people were detained over the occurrences.
