Levante midfielder Jefferson Lerma has told AS about a curious conversation he had with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez following a match between the two sides.

Lerma in Colombia ahead of World Cup

The 23-year-old is in his home country of Colombia, preparing to join up with José Pekerman’s squad for the World Cup in Russia. Lerma spoke to AS about a range of topics, but the anecdote of his meeting with Pérez stands out.

“I played around 25 minutes against Madrid,” Lerma said. “When I was leaving I bumped in to the Levante president with some club directors and Florentino Pérez. He said hello and said, ‘congratulations, you played well and ran a lot”.

“I thanked him and responded, ‘bring me to Real Madrid,’ to which he said, ‘keep on like that and you’ll come, you’ll see.’ I looked at him, smiled, and said ‘ok’”

Dreams of top level

Lerma aspires to reach the top level, and his three years in Spain, coupled with his inclusión in the Colombia squad, will certainly help with that.

“I still have dreams. I’m, still a kid,” Lerma said. “I used to dream of being a professional footballer. I’ve already achieved a lot of the things I had set out in my life project, and now I’m dreaming about playing for one of the big clubs.”
