Mo Salah has sought to allay fears in his native Egypt that he may miss the World Cup after suffering a shoulder injury during the Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kiev.

Posting on social media, Salah said "it was a very tough night" but expressed his optimism that he will be able to appear in Egypt's first World Cup finals in 28 years and will be available for his national team manager, Héctor Cúper, when the finalised squad is submitted to Fifa on June 4.

Khaled Abd Elaziz, the Egyptian minister for sports, also said that the Liverpool star will be fit for the World Cup after a tangle with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

In a Facebook post, picked up by Egyptian media outlet Kingfut, Abd Elaziz said that Salah is expected to be out for just two weeks and will undergo a rehabilitation programme in order to make the final squad for the tournament in Russia

Egyptian Football Federation also confident on Salah's fitness

The minister added that Salah had suffered some ligament damage to his shoulder and would undergo treatment first in Egypt and then with Liverpool’s medical staff before joining up with The Pharaohs’ pre-tournament training camp in Italy.

Abd Elaziz’s statement echoes that of the Egyptian Football Federation, who gave a similar timeframe for the forward’s recovery after preliminary examinations on Salah’s shoulder after the game in Kiev.
