Allegri joins list of candidates to take over from Zidane
The Juventus boss has the profile Real Madrid are looking for. He has won the double in the four seasons he spent with Juve and his contract expires in 2020.
Zinedine Zidane's sudden departure from Real Madrid has activated the search for a replacement who will aspire to the same level of success as the French coach gained during his short spell at the Bernabéu. So far, the candidates to have cropped up reports in the media are Mauricio Pochettino, Arsène Wenger, Joachim Löw and rank outsider, Jürgen Klopp.
However a new candidate has joined the the list: Massimiliano Allegri. The Juventus coach is highly thought of at the Santiago Bernabéu and his working methods could be easily adapted to Real Madrid's style of football.
Ticks all the boxes
Madrid approached Allegri about the coaching post a couple of years ago but talks fizzled out. Allegri. The Italian is under contract with La Vecchia Signora until 2020. He has enjoyed continued success in Turin, guiding the team to a domestic double in each of his four seasons at the helm since joining in 2014-2015. Allegri's Juve have also regularly enjoyed strong campaigns in the Champions League - his team reached the final in the 2016/17 edition and knocked out Barcelona on the way.
Allegri has ample experience managing a dressing room full of stars. The clearest example that springs to mind is Paul Pogba, although he has also shown tact in dealing with other big name players such as Paulo Dyabala. He has also worked with a handful of former Real Madrid players, such as Sami Khedira, Gonzalo Higuaín and Álvaro Morata.
At the moment there has been no offer on the table for any of the candidates but Florentino Pérez is expected to move quickly to fill the vacancy so that a new coach will be in charge before the pre-season gets underway.
