Atlético Madrid: Griezmann tells camp he's staying
In the wake of promises by the club on summer signings, Antoine Griezmann is now understood to be set on remaining at Atlético.
The Antoine Griezmann saga appears to be on the verge of reaching a resolution. The Atlético Madrid star, who has been strongly linked with an end-of-season switch to LaLiga rivals Barcelona, is understood to have told his camp that he intends to stay at the Wanda Metropolitano this summer.
Griezmann swayed by promise of major summer signings
Diario AS has been able to confirm the news, which was initially revealed by the newspaper ABC on Monday morning, that talks between Griezmann and Atlético have proved fruitful - and not only in terms of the improvements that Los Rojiblancos are ready to make to the France international's contract.
A factor that seems to have been crucial is the club's commitment to bringing in top-level players to ensure Diego Simeone's men continue to challenge for major silverware. Sporting director Andrea Berta is currently working flat out with a view to making more than one transfer-market splash before the World Cup.
But will Atleti have to sell big name to finance spending?
However, question marks remain over where Atleti will find the money for this, leading to concerns over the future of Jan Oblak. Oblak is believed to be a target for Premier League clubs Liverpool - who have reportedly tabled a 90m-euro bid for the goalkeeper - and Arsenal, whose new coach, Unai Emery, is a firm admirer.
