Former England captain David Beckham believes that the Three Lions will meet Argentina in the World Cup final in Russia.

An old foe battle predicted

Gareth Southgate's side secured a last-gasp victory over Tunisia in their opening match in Group G, while Argentina were held to a 1-1 draw by tournament debutants Iceland in a game where Lionel Messi saw a penalty saved.

Both nations have dreams of glory at the tournament and Beckham is tipping the two sides to sweep through their opponents in Russia and secure a spot in next month's final in Moscow.

"I believe Argentina will play against England in the final," Beckham said at an event in China.

"I think obviously my choice would be England to win the competition, but that's me being biased and passionate about my country."

Argentina memories

Beckham holds two memorable World Cup moments against Argentina, earning a red card in 1998 for kicking Diego Simeone and scoring a winning penalty in a group stage clash against La Albiceleste in 2002, and is happy with his nation's performances so far.

"I'm very happy that we won the first game in the group," he added.

"England is a very young team, they don't have a lot of experience yet and the journey of the World Cup will become harder and harder because there are many good teams in the tournament."

Southgate's side face their second World Cup group match against Panama on Sunday, while Argentina will look to secure their first win at the tournament against Croatia on Thursday.
