Algeria keen to stage the World Cup

Earlier this week, the Algerian Minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Hattab, said his country is open to the idea of bringing the World Cup to North Africa in 2030 along with its neighbours Tunisia and Morocco.

"With the sports infrastructure that was built, Algeria is ready to study a possible joint bid with Morocco and Tunisia for the organization of the World Cup," he told Reuters. Today, the president of the FTF Wadie Jary said: "We haven't received any official offers, but we're open to the idea and would like to see it happen."

Officials in Morocco have already declared their intention to bid for the tournament after losing out to USA, Mexico and Canada bid for the 2026 tournament. This would be Morocco's sixth bid to host the World Cup, having failed on their five previous attempts.

South American and British competition for World Cup 2030

The three North African countries could face competition by a South American bid of Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. There have also been hints about a British bid for the 2030 tournament.

A vote by Fifa to decide the 2030 hosts is not expected before 2022, when the World Cup travels to Qatar.
