Inter to offer Real Madrid €15m for Luka Modric loan - reports
Italian daily Il Giornale suggests that the Italian giants are aiming to secure a loan for the Croatia midfielder with a €25m purchase option.
Inter Milan have reportedly come up with an offer for Luka Modric, but it is not one that is likely to have Florentino Pérez reaching for his telephone in a hurry.
According to Italian daily Il Giornale, the Serie A club are to table an initial loan deal worth 15 million euros for the 2018-19 season, with the option to make the move permanent for a fee of 25 million next summer.
After Pérez stated that Modric would not be allowed to leave for a euro less than the 750 million euros stipulated in the Croatia captain’s contract, Inter’s valuation of the player seems a little short of the mark.
Modric’s stock has risen inexorably since his arrival at Madrid from Tottenham in 2012, a move that cost the Bernabéu board a little over 30 million euros. The midfielder has won four Champions League titles with Real and was awarded the Golden Ball at the World Cup in Russia as Croatia reached the final.
Real unlikely to countenance Modric sale after losing Ronaldo
Although Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Modric has a gentleman’s agreement in place with Pérez permitting him to leave the Bernabéu at the player’s request, the likelihood of the Real president sanctioning the deal after losing Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus already this summer appears remote. And even more so at the fees being suggested by Il Giornale, who do also state that a bid of 70 million may be more acceptable. Even that would probably be very short of what Madrid would expect for a player who is widely considered the finest central midfielder in the world and considering that they pocketed over 100 million for the 33-year-old Ronaldo.
Inter’s motives for pitching such a low figure is to remain in line with FFP regulations, with the coffers at the Giuseppe Meazza hardly bulging in comparison to many of Europe’s other traditional heavyweights.
Il Giornale reports that Inter are though prepared to make Modric a tantalizing offer of a four-year deal worth 10 million euros per season, which is the sort of amount that Madrid will consider tabling to keep Modric at the Bernabéu and that would bring him in line with the salary currently enjoyed by club captain Sergio Ramos.
