Jesús Vallejo out of action for four to six weeks

The centre-back suffered a muscular tear which meant he had to sit out Tuesday's friendly against Roma. He will miss the Trofeo Bernabéu and the UEFA Supercup final.

Real Madrid's US tour ended on a low note with some bad news for Julen Lopetegui. With Raphaël Varane only recently back with the squad and still lacking preparation, the coach has lost one of his alternatives in central defence. Jesús Vallejo has suffered a Grade II muscle tear which will keep him sidelined for between four and six weeks. He sat out the Roma game and Lopetegui was forced to field Marcos Llorente as centre-back for the final minutes of the match...

It's a fresh blow for Vallejo, whose ongoing fitness problems prevented him from being given a regular run in the side last season. He started off as a starter in this summer's tour of the United States but now looks like he will miss the start of the season again. Vallejo is ruled out for this Saturday's Trofeo Bernabéu against AC Milan and next week's UEFA Supercup final against Atlético.
