Real Madrid looking for a Uruguayan defender

According to various sources, including Uruguayan daily Ovación, Real Madrid really are keen on José Luis Rodríguez. The 20 year old defender is currently with Danubio and turns out for Uruguay Under 20s: “Let’s see what they decide to do” he told the newspaper. He’s also spoken to Sport 890, and told them Real Madrid are definitely interested. Nicknamed ‘The Puma’ he’d be joining up with Real Madrid Castilla, if he does come.

Legends: Real Madrid v Arsenal

The Real Madrid Legends, led by Raúl, take on Arsenal’s old boys at the Emirates this afternoon (kick-off at 15:00 CEST). It’s the return leg of this summer’s Corazón Classic charity match, which Real Madrid won 2-1. All the proceeds from today’s game go to Arsenal’s charity foundation, which carries out good works in countries including Iraq, Indonesia, Jordan and Somalia. Davor Suker, who played for both clubs will be there and Arsenal will also count on Pires and Gilberto Silva. Real Madrid will have Butragueño and Morientes, alongside Makelele, Alfonso. Víctor… After the match they’ll all head off to Wembley for the England - Spain match.

First Clásico kick-off time and date

Get your diaries out, or open up the calendar app on your fancy smartphone, and ring Sunday 28 October. That’s the date for this season’s first Clásico, with Barcelona hosting Real Madrid at 16:15.

Llorente off on hols

Marcos Llorente, who ended up not going on loan in the end despite a heavy dose of rumours to that effect, took advantage of the days off Lopetegui has given the squad over the international break and headed off on holidays with his girlfriend Patricia Noarbe. Tough life.

Brahim Díaz on Madrid’s agenda

According to English newspaper the Evening Standard, Real Madrid are keen on bringing in 19 year old midfielder Brahim Díaz from Manchester City. The youngster, from Málaga, finishes his contract with City in 2019 and may be getting a case of itchy feet. He’s turned out for Man City’s first team five times since making his debut in 2016, and is part of the Spain Under-21 set-up.

Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo

The best player of last season according to Uefa, Luka Modric, revealed yesterday that his former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo (remember, he left for Juventus) sent him a message congratulating him on winning the award. Ronaldo didn’t go to the ceremony, prompting all sorts of speculation that he didn’t go because he’d been told he wasn’t going to win and he didn’t like that.

European Anniversary

Today marks 63 years since Real Madrid played their first ever game in the European Cup. They beat Swiss side Servette in Geneva 2-0 thanks to goals from Miguel Muñoz and Rial. They’ve since gone on to lift the trophy 13 times.

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez wants to revamp the Bernabéu, but needs the approval of the Real Madrid members to organise some huge loans to pay for it.
